this week in social, pr & tech

Social Media, PR and Tech are constantly changing which means everyday there is something new to report. With loads of information released daily, I'm here to try to make it easy for you.

Here's the skinny: this week saw a lot of "new" tech with the MadeByGoogle launch. And by "new" I mean Google hardware that looks a whole lot like existing Apple, Amazon and Facebook hardware. Facebook has no room to complain, however, because they're using yet another one of their acquired apps to completely copy Snapchat again. If copying is a form of flattering, Snapchat is having a flattering year because a new app by Giphy has a certain Snapchat look. Snapchat meanwhile is looking at an IPO for March 2017Another Note7 replacement caught fire on a Southwest airplane causing an excavation. Phone competitors: 2; Note7: 0. Count a win for Samsung, however, with their patented foldable smartphone (hat tip to our beloved Razrs). Does anyone want Twitter? Looks like a no, especially when Twitter stock took a dive. Yahoo also took a dive in value (I know, Yahoo still had value?) especially after opening up about their partnership with US IntelligenceAnd the copycat's and acquisitions continue this week after Google also announced their *ahem* "assistant" who seems a whole lot like Siri. Speaking of Siri, Samsung acquired Viv, an AI platform made by the creators of Siri. This could mean bad news for Apple. Apple already had enough bad news this week after they lost the FaceTime patent retrial.  In other news, Netflix teamed up with cafes/diners across the US to promote 'Gilmore Girls'. Amazon put an end to incentivized reviews, which is a PR professionals nightmare. In autonomous car news, both Uber and Google had crashes this week with Google's crash being an unfortunate timing after also reaching 2 million miles earlier in the week. And lastly, for your entertainment, Disney made a hopping robot that looks a lot like Tigger. Who knew a robot could be this adorable.

In case that wasn't enough or you feel like you missed something, here is everything that happened this week:
